HDR remastering is not as simple as clicking a button and having it work. Well, I now have an HDR display hooked up to my PC (a 48C1 OLED), and the tools have improved quite a bit since then. Digital Foundry produced a video on this late last year, but I did not have an HDR display for my PC at the time, so I did not pay it much attention - and frankly, I thought that the results were horribly ugly. I wanted to share some impressions and results of something I experimented with this weekend: remastering DX11 games in HDR using Kaldaien's SpecialK and DX9 games with the help of dgVoodoo2. I recommend visiting the SpecialK discord if you are interested in up-to-date help on getting this working in games. The methods of getting HDR to work in older games has changed a lot as well - now preferably via DXVK than dgVoodoo2. SpecialK has changed a lot - and in many cases, the default HDR profile should be sufficient now.
